As reported on News Center 7 at 11:00, Greene County crews are battling massive snow drifts as they work to clear the roads.

News Center 7′s Xavier Hershovitz rode along as crews as this winter storm has meant early mornings and long days for crews at the Greene County Engineer’s Office.

“I’m in this lane here, coming back in, and it’s a foot deep,” Aaron said clearing the roads.

“We’ve been working around the clock, 12-hour shifts, fighting storm since it rolled in,” said Stephanie Goff, Greene County Engineer.

She tells Hershovitz it has been a battle clearing the roads.

“Definitely been kind of a battle on two sides in our county, as far as the west side and the east side,” said Goff.

In western Greene County, they’ve cleared the pavement in Beavercreek. But it has been a challenge in Xenia.

Hershovitz jumped in the truck with Aaron to see what they were dealing with.

“We’ve been fighting the drifts, the high winds, getting the tall drifts, everything else,” said Goff.

The wind has been a challenge.

In one stretch of road, the trees block the wind, and the road is clear. But the streets looked like they barely got paved when they got past the treeline, according to Hershovitz.

“As long as we have the winds, we’re going to fight the drifting,” said Goff.

Put this in perspective, Hershovitz is about 5 feet, 10 inches tall. The snow drift is taller than him. Crews told him the snow was long on the road on Monday.

“You may come over a hill, and then there’s a drift that’s been created the several feet that you’re going to hit,” Goff said.

Greene County crews will continue hitting these windy spots over- and-over to keep things clear until the winds calm down.
