Amid the news about the launch of Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo has unveiled a new app that will keep the public informed about its planned launches and future products. Nintendo announced the launch of the smartphone app named Nintendo Today on Thursday, March 27.

Nintendo Direct March Stream

The announcement came during the March Nintendo Direct stream. Nintendo Today has been designed to function as a daily calendar for users, the Japanese video game giant said. Nintendo is set to drop details about the Switch 2 in its next Direct broadcast on April 2.

Nintendo Today: Built For Direct Communication

The latest Nintendo Direct featured an appearance by company legend Shigeru Miyamoto, who said that the Nintendo Today was planned with an aim to communicate with fans directly. He reportedly announced that the app will carry lots of Switch 2-related news following the April 2 Nintendo Direct.

Nintendo Today Release: Here’s What The Company Said

Nintendo Today, which has been launched for iOS and Android devices, will deliver a variety of content primarily focused on users’ favourite game series on a daily basis, the company said in a release. Users will be required to have a free Nintendo Account to use the newly launched app.

Animated Calendar: Nintendo Today will use brief animations featuring users’ favourite Nintendo characters to display the date. The users will be able to choose one from five game series to set the theme of the calendar. The available choices are Super Mario, Animal Crossing, The Legend of Zelda, Animal Crossing, Pikmin, and Splatoon.

Daily Content Delivery: “The app delivers a variety of content, including the latest news, video content, and manga, related to the user’s favorite game franchises as well as games the user has previously played,” the communique by Nintendo read.

Event Schedule: The Nintendo Today will also deliver various Nintendo-related information such as game release dates, forthcoming Nintendo Direct streams, and in-game events. The app also allows users to filter and sort the events on the basis of games and event types.

Widgets: “By using widgets, which are shortcut features for smart devices, users can use the app even more comfortably. With a Nintendo Today! widget on the smart device’s home menu, users can check the calendar and latest contents without loading the app. And by selecting a wallpaper that matches the widget design, users can customize their smart device home screen,” Nintendo stated.
