Chantelle Houghton has admitted that she would rather be alone than ‘feeling lonely’ in a relationship as she gives a candid update about her love life.

The TV personality, 41, who first shot to fame in 2006 when she entered the Celebrity Big Brother house as a non-celebrity, told in a new interview that she hasn’t dated in years and is enjoying a quiet life as a single mum following a string of headline-grabbing romances.

Opening up about her lack of love life, she told OK! magazine: ‘I have no love life! I’ve been single for many, many years now because of the circumstances that I was in. I wasn’t forced, but I was in circumstances looking after my little girl where I spent a lot of my time alone.

‘And I’m not one of those people to be with someone just for the sake of it. I’ve always said that I’d rather be sitting on the sofa by myself, than be sitting on the sofa with someone feeling lonely, because there’s nothing worse than actually being in a relationship and feeling lonely and unhappy.’

Chantelle went on to say that while she’s ‘open’ to meeting someone new, she isn’t actively dating and feels she doesn’t need to be with someone ‘to feel whole’.

Meanwhile, Chantelle told how the fallout from the breakdown of her relationship with Ordinary Boys frontman Preston, 43, left her feeling ‘hurt’ as she detailed the scrutiny their romance came under.

Chantelle was married to the singer for just 10 months after meeting in the Big Brother house before embarking on a string of other high profile relationships.

She said: ‘At the beginning, you’re in love, everything’s happy and rosy, and everyone’s coming along on this really amazing love story with you, and you’re OK with that. But then when the relationship breaks down, it’s not good.’

She added that things were OK when ‘everything’s great’, but the minute the relationship fails, it becomes ‘very difficult’ as people express their opinions on the situation, admitting: ‘Sometimes that hurts’.

Chantelle was previously engaged to Katie Price’s ex Alex Reid, 49, back in 2011, but their relationship broke down after claims he had been unfaithful with other men and turned their home into a sex dungeon.

Alex is the father to her 12-year-old daughter Dolly, whom she welcomed in 2012.

Alex and Chantelle have been far from amicable since their split, but have since moved on with their lives as Alex went on to have children with partner Nikki Manashe.

In addition to Alex, Chantelle also dated former Crimewatch host Rav Wilding, 47, before they were pictured having a blazing row after which led to them splitting up in 2012.

Telling the The Mirror about the incident at the time: ‘You give six months of your life to someone – you don’t expect this treatment. Everyone could see it was aggressive.’

Despite being unlucky-in-love, Chantelle noted to OK! magazine that she’s ‘happy on her own’ and anyone new will only ‘add’ to her happiness.

She added that she has had ‘a few offers’, however she’s ‘politely declined’ as many of her potential suitors were ‘really old’.

It comes after she revealed in March that she’s been celibate for the last two years following a string of disastrous relationships.

The beauty said she has ‘given up’ looking for love due to the lack of ‘gentlemen’ in the world.

The mother-of-one told The Sun: ‘It’s been about two years now and without sex I feel empowered, independent and free’.

‘Chivalry appears to be dead and I’d much rather go through the rest of my life single than settle for someone who makes me miserable’.

She added: ‘Since my marriage to Preston ended I’ve suffered everything from ghosting to gaslighting and I can spot a narcissist a mile off’.
